Grooming Recommendations

We are routinely asked about how often a dog should be groomed.  The answer really depends on the dog, activity level, and their coat type.

  • “Long haired dogs” (Poodles, Yorkies, Maltese, et al) require monthly grooming to maintain their coats.  Some dogs (Cocker Spaniel) also need to be routinely cut back or shaved.
  • “Thick coated dogs” (Collies & Shelties) also should be groomed more often as the full bath and comprehensive brushing will maintain their coat and cut down on shedding at home.
  • “Outdoor dogs” These dogs pick up more dirt, twigs, or other natural debris so for their health it is important for them to be groomed at least every other month.
  • “Short haired dogs” (Labradors, Boxers)  May only require a complete grooming once or twice a year but a regular bath would help them stay clean and hygienic throughout the year.

Whether you groom your dog yourself or have them cared for professionally, comprehensive grooming is important to maintaining your pets overall health and happiness!
